At a certain point in spring of sophomore year it sprung upon me that I needed a job to sustain my shopping addiction. My parents told me that since I was getting older, I needed to start taking responsibility for myself. (L3) I had gone into this restaurant which my parents really liked, and I recognized some of my peers that were working that night. In the upcoming weeks I visited again, asking if they were hiring, which they weren’t. I came back probably four times in the following month, showing my dedication to working there. I waited a couple more weeks for a text telling me I was hired and was starting that upcoming Satureday.

After working there for a while I started building amazing friendships with my coworkers; and since Cowboy is a family business, everyone got along like a family, even if we weren’t all blood. I became familiar with all of the regulars and gained immense respect for the chefs. Cowboy is a somewhat popular restaurant for those who live in the valley, and one of my favorite parts about working there is when all the teachers come from SLVHS to celebrate their big events (L1).

Working in a restaurant has taught me how to be accommodating, resilient, and social. Each manager has certain things they prefer to be done slightly differently, so I have to respect all of my coworkers' opinions on how to go about things (L2). It has also taught me how to be aware of waste production (L4).

Overall, my experience working at Cowboy Bar & Grill has helped shape me into the person I am today by teaching me how to be responsible, accommodating, and resilient.

Along with my job as a busser, I showed my leadership abilities when I signed up to be in Link Crew and NCBI. Both of these institutions are opportunities to help assimilate the underclassmen into High School and make them feel comfortable here at SLVHS.
